THE crisis-ridden euro zone is likely to begin breaking up this year, a leading economic forecaster has predicted.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research yesterday warned that there is a 60 per cent likelihood of at least one country leaving the single currency system in 2012.

Greece will almost certainly be first to give up the euro, with Italy expected to be close behind.

The eurozone as a whole is almost certain to disintegrate entirely over the next decade, the centre added.

The gloomy forecast came in a start-of-the-year survey from the think-tank.

It is likely to be taken very seriously in Westminster and Brussels, since the CEBR accurately predicted last year’s eurozone debt crisis.

In the latest forecast, chief executive Douglas McWilliams said: “It looks as though 2012 will be the year when the euro starts to break up.

“It is not a done deal yet – we are only forecasting a 60 per cent probability – but our forecast is that by the end of the year at least one country, and probably more, will leave.

“We have revised up our forecast of the probability of an eventual break-up within the next decade from an 80 per cent chance to a 99 per cent chance.”

Mr McWilliams added: “It’s become clearer in the last year of the virtual political impossibility of doing the deal that would be necessary to make the euro survive.

“To make the euro survive in the longer term, it needs countries to be sufficiently competitive to have some economic growth to be able to pay off their debts.”

Officials at the Treasury and the Bank of England are understood to be working on plans to deal with the break-up, which many experts fear will start a global economic crisis.

In further gloomy news, the centre also forecast that the British economy will return to recession this year.

Its report said: “Depending on how the euro is managed, European gross domestic products will decline by between 0.6 and two per cent.

“The UK will also probably hit a temporary recession – this could well be happening right now.”

The forecast came as support continued to increase for the Daily Express’s Get Britain Out Of Europe crusade.

The CEBR forecast that the financial squeeze on middle-income families looked almost certain to continue.

“It is going to be another tough year for UK households,” its report said.

“Whereas the squeeze in 2011 came from increased costs – as a result of commodity price hikes and the VAT rise – the squeeze in 2012 is likely to come from reduced income growth

THE Archbishop of Canterbury has called on the public not to give up on the younger generation despite the “horrific” scenes during the summer riots.

In his New Year message Dr Rowan Williams described the violence as “angry” and “lawless” but said that, when shown the right support and love, young people can “flourish”.

Describing the disturbances which swept the country, he said: “Quite a lot of the images we’re likely to remember from the footage of the riots in the summer will be of young people out of control in the streets, walking off with looted property from shops, noisily confronting police and so on.

“It all feeds into the national habit of being suspicious and hostile when we see groups of youngsters on street corners or outside shops and bus shelters.

“We walk a bit more quickly and hope we can pass without some sort of confrontation. The events of the summer were certainly horrific. They showed us a face of our society we don’t like to think about – angry, destructive, lawless.”

But he said those involved were a minority and most young people shared the “general feeling of dismay at this behaviour”.

He praised charities such as Kids Company in south London for providing support and role models to enable youngsters to develop.

“When you see the gifts they can offer, the energy that can be released when they feel safe and loved, you see what a tragedy we so often allow to happen,” he said.

“Look at the work done by groups like The Children’s Society or by the astonishing network of Kids Company here in London, and you see what can be done to wake up that energy and let it flourish for everyone’s good.” The Archbishop called on people to recognise how their actions can help improve society as a whole.

He said: “Being grown up doesn’t mean forgetting about the young.

“And a good New Year’s resolution might be to think what you can do locally to support facilities for young people, to support opportunities for counselling and learning and enjoyment in a safe environment.

“And above all, perhaps we should just be asking how we make friends with our younger fellow citizens – for the sake of our happiness as well as theirs.”

Meanwhile, Pope Benedict praised young people as key to securing a future of hope despite “shadows on the horizon of today’s world”.

Young people, he said, must “learn the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, dialogue and understanding.”

FOREIGN criminals who should have been deported have been freed from jail to commit murders, kidnaps and rapes in Britain, a leaked report revealed yesterday.

In all, three people have been murdered among a slew of violent offences, three have been kidnapped and 14 have been victims of sexual attacks, including rape, admits the report by the UK Border Agency.

Foreigners who are jailed for more than a year are meant to be deported upon release but because of human rights laws Home Secretary Theresa May’s officials are forced to allow the criminals to live in the community as they struggle to sort out their deportation.

The Border Agency report reveals 4,238 such offenders are currently “non-detained”.

Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Home Office figures show 700 fewer foreign national criminals were removed from the UK this year compared to last.

“Now we learn that the number of foreign prisoners released into communities has increased by nearly 500 in just four months.

“This new information adds to the deep concern, chaos and incompetence surrounding the Home Secretary’s handling of the UKBA.”

Gerard Batten of the UK Independence Party, said: “This report clearly shows that the Government has lost control of our borders.”

Matthew Sinclair, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “If this is the result of the Human Rights Act, it needs to be scrapped immediately.

“The Government need to end this expensive farce.”

A Home Office spokesman vowed: “We will change the immigration rules to cut abuse of the Human Rights Act.”

There are 10,779 foreigners in British prisons, plus 1,431 who are behind bars awaiting deportation.

Twenty-one people have died and nearly 100 others were injured when five bombs struck Shia pilgrims during an important religious ritual.

The attacks revealed the enormous security challenges that still beset Iraq as the US military leaves the country.

Shia religious holidays such as the mourning period known as Ashoura are targeted every year by Sunni extremists and have become especially difficult tests for the US-trained Iraqi security forces, still struggling to protect their citizens.

The US military is rapidly shipping troops and equipment out of the country before a December 31 deadline to have all its forces out - then the entire responsibility for the nation's security will rest with Iraq's leaders.

On Ashoura, the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who walk to the southern holy city of Karbala from around the country in a show of religious Shia fervour present a particularly easy target for Sunni militants who do not consider Shias to be true Muslims.

After the fall of Saddam Hussein's Sunni-dominated regime in 2003, Shias regained the right to express their beliefs freely, and since then the annual commemorations have drawn huge crowds despite the threat.

In the first attack, a bomb exploded among Shia pilgrims in Latifiyah, about 20 miles south of the capital, killing two of them and wounding three others, police said. A medical official confirmed the casualty toll.

Hours later, a car bomb exploded near a group of pilgrims in the town of Mahaweel as they were heading to Karbala, killing eight people and wounding about 56 other pilgrims, said police officials in Babil province. Mahaweel is about 35 miles south of Baghdad.

Three more attacks against Shia pilgrims in the capital killed 11 people and wounded 41 others, police said.

Ashoura marks the anniversary of the seventh-century death of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. His death in a battle outside of Karbala sealed Islam's historical Sunni-Shia split, which still bedevils the Middle East and Iraq in particular. To commemorate his death, Shias walk from around the country to Karbala.

A Muslim woman disemboweled her daughter as a sacrifice to God after she became convinced the four-year-old was possessed by spirits, the Old Bailey heard.
Shayma Ali, 36, stabbed the girl up to 40 times and took out her liver while Koranic verses played in the background.
When police arrived at their east London home, Ali was heard chanting: 'I seek refuge in God from the curse of Satan'.

Ali was found covered in blood rocking back and forward in the lounge of her home, with the child's liver on the carpet.

She had become obsessed that the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was possessed by a Jinn, a spirit referred to in the Koran which can occupy humans and animals.
In the winter months of last year Ali developed acute transient psychosis, which ended in the killing of the child on December 16.
Duncan Atkinson, prosecuting, said Ali had become an increasingly devout follower of Islam after a trip to Egypt in 2009.
By last year she was prone to 'outbursts of aggression' towards members of her family who became concerned that her mental health was deteriorating.
'She became particularly pre-occupied by the idea of possession by a thing call a Jinn,' said Mr Atkinson.

She removed the eyes from toys and videos, covering over the eyes on covers of DVDs and books. And she talked constantly about evil spirits and the belief that her daughter was possessed.
Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson told the Old Bailey Ali became increasingly obsessed with exorcising the evil spirits.

'She also became obsessed with cleaning because she believed such evil spirits thrived in dirty spaces.' He said she 'talked constantly about evil spirits' and the belief that her daughter was possessed.
On December 16 last year she was alone with her daughter, who was not attending nursery because of a recent illness, at her home in east London.
Ali later told a psychiatrist she had been praying when she began to think about sacrificing a child 'as proof of her love of God'.
Mr Atkinson said: 'She became convinced God wanted her to sacrifice her own child.
'She gripped her daughter by the neck until she blacked out. She took her to the kitchen and, as she said, "just to make sure she had killed the Jinn, the evil spirits, properly I took a kitchen knife which had been lying about and stabbed my daughter".'

The court heard she called her husband and was found by family members in the lounge. The child was dead in the kitchen.
Police officers observed Ali repeatedly chanting: 'I seek refuge in God from the curse of Satan.' She was subsequently arrested and later charged with murder.
The four-year-old had suffered 28 exit wounds to her back, but many of the wounds overlapped each other, leading the pathologist to believe there had been 30 to 40 stab wounds.
She had also suffered blunt impact injuries to her head and compression to her neck.
In January this year Ali spoke to her husband and told him: 'A voice told me "if you really love Allah you would sacrifice your daughter".'

Psychiatrist Dr Philip Baker said Ali had become ill very quickly and it was 'very difficult for any action to be taken' but when she was psychotic she was capable of extreme violence.
Ali admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility. Wearing a burka she sobbed in the dock, flanked by three nurses, as she entered her plea.
Judge Anthony Morris QC ordered she be detained in a medium-secure unit for treatment without limit of time under sections 27 and 41 of the Mental Health Act.
'You were suffering from what has been described as an acute and transient psychotic disorder which clearly had been getting significantly worse over a short period of time before you carried out the killing,' he said.
'You became convinced that God wanted you to sacrifice your child and you went on to carry out the most terrible attack upon your four year-old daughter, stabbing her many, many times and then removing her internal organs.'

He added: 'One of the most horrifying aspects of this case is how quickly you lost control of yourself in that you became, in a very short period of time, somebody who was acting in a way entirely foreign to your normal manner of behaviour.
'The authorities must think long and hard before considering whether it is safe to release you, having regard to the rapidity of the onset of your acute symptoms in this case.'

TEARFUL crowds gathered for an emotional farewell to the Ark Royal yesterday as the doomed Royal Navy flagship was decommissioned.

The last 150 sailors serving on Britain’s most famous warship watched as her white ensign was lowered for the final time.

Principal guest First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope inspected a guard comprising 30 of the ship’s company at the aircraft carrier’s home port of Portsmouth.

The Royal Marines Band played ceremonial music during the hour-long service given by the ship’s chaplain and attended by more than 900 family and former commanding officers.

The 689ft-long ship was controversially decommissioned three years early due to Government cuts.

Captain Jerry Kyd, last Commanding Officer of HMS Ark Royal, who now commands sister ship HMS Illustrious, said: “Ark Royal is the best of British and represents everything great about our country.

“I’m very proud to have served as her last captain. Ark Royal has played a very important role throughout her history and has had considerable success in delivering carrier strike.

“My very first job after finishing my initial officer training 25 years ago at Dartmouth was in the then brand-new HMS Ark Royal.” Ark Royal’s operations included a pivotal role in the Nato campaign during the Bosnia conflict. In early 2003 she led the UK’s naval forces during the invasion of Iraq.

She clocked up 621,551 nautical miles during her career.

One of the final crew members of the Ark Royal was Wren Shannon Brown, 20, from Hull.

She said: “I have to admit I had a lump in my throat during the ceremony and at times it was hard to hold it together.”

The ship, the fifth to bear the name Ark Royal, was launched in 1981 on the River Tyne by the Queen Mother.

The name Ark Royal has played an important role in Royal Navy history since the first ship earned her stripes against the Spanish Armada in 1588.

The third Ark Royal played an integral part in the Second World War, helping to track down German battleship Bismarck before herself being torpedoed and sunk.

The ship’s future is unclear. She may be sold, used for spares or turned into a museum.

The decision to scrap her leaves the UK without the ability to launch fast jets from a British carrier until the Queen Elizabeth class comes into service at the end of the decade.

Eastern Bloc migrants soon to be allowed to claim benefits here

EUROPEAN law changes will, within weeks, allow thousands of migrants from the former Soviet bloc to claim a range of benefits and work in the UK without registering.

Restrictions when eight eastern European states joined the EU in 2004 must be lifted in May, allowing claims for benefits like jobseeker's allowance, council tax benefit and housing.

Migrants from the so-called A8 countriesthe Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - will no longer have to register if they wish to work for a month or more in Britain. Under the scheme A8 migrants could only claim benefits if they had worked here continuously for 12 months.

Estimates suggest that as many as 100,000 migrants could claim UK benefits. But the Department for Work and Pensions insisted that strict rules would remain in place to prevent abuse and stop "benefit tourism".

Eastern European migrants will be allowed to claim our benefits under European law

Immigration minister Damian Green said that countries including Germany and Austria would also open their labour markets. Only Britain, Ireland and Sweden permitted free access to workers from A8 countries in 2004.

It is thought that many will now be attracted to Germany and Austria.

Mr Green said: "These restrictions have to be lifted at the end of April, giving A8 nationals the same access to work as other EU nationals." The DWP said it had no choice but to remain in line with national and international obligations. But the department insisted that protecting the benefit system from abuse was its "number one priority".

EU Fails to Condemn Attacks on Christians

TOP Eurocrat Cathy Ashton faced outrage last night after the EU failed to condemn attacks on Christians in the Islamic world.

Diplomats accused the baroness, who is EU foreign affairs supremo and the world’s most highly-paid female politician, of seeking to appease Muslims by wiping out any reference to the Christian faith in statements.

One Christian pressure group even urged the Labour peer to resign over the shambles.

The row erupted yesterday when a meeting of EU foreign ministers, chaired by Baroness Ashton, broke up in acrimony after failing to agree a statement about religious persecution in Egypt and Iraq.

Italian foreign minister Franco Frattini savaged Lady Ashton over the debacle, saying: “This position is an excess of secularism, which is damaging the credibility of Europe.

“The final text didn’t include any mention of Christians, as if we were talking of something else, so I asked for the text to be withdrawn.” Mr Frattini had demanded a response from the EU after a New Year suicide bombing at a Coptic church in Egypt in which 23 people died.

That bombing followed attacks on Christians in Baghdad, which led the Vatican to warn of growing persecution that could trigger a Christian exodus from the Middle East.

One diplomat said: “Those who thought the creation of a high representative would lead to a more unified and coherent EU foreign policy have been very disappointed with Ashton.

“She cannot even finesse a statement from Christian Europe condemning attacks on Christians.”

The failure to condemned attacks on Christians follows a series of attempts by Eurocrats to stamp out references to Christianity in EU documents.

Brussels chiefs agreed to expunge reference to Europe’s Christian heritage in the controversial Lisbon Treaty. And earlier this month, the EU produced three million diaries for children that marked the dates of Muslim, Sikh, Jewish, Chinese and Hindu festivals but had no reference to Christmas, Easter or other Christian celebrations.

Criticism of Baroness Ashton, who earns £270,000 a year, was growing last night.

Tory MEP Roger Helmer said: “This is extraordinary. Cathy Ashton appears incapable of saying anything in these situations. She just buries her head in the sand.”

Alan Craig, of the Christian People’s Alliance, said: “Baroness Ashton must know door-step execution-style shootings in Baghdad, car bombs in Egypt and machete attacks in Nigeria were carried out on specific Christian targets.”

TWO in every three new UK jobs went to foreign-born workers, shock figures showed yesterday.

The statistic emerged on the day Britain’s jobless total hit 2.5 million, including a record 951,000 16 to 24-year-olds.

The Office for National Statistics figures intensified fears that unemployment will soar this year amid public sector jobs cuts.

But now a breakdown of workers by place of birth and nationality suggests even where new jobs are created, only a third go to people born in Britain. For example, there were 300,000 more jobs from July to September last year.

Two-thirds went to overseas workers – roughly half to migrants from across the world and the rest to those born in eastern European countries like Poland that joined the EU in 2004.

Overall, while a million jobs have been created here over the past six years, there are a third of a million fewer UK-born people working, while nearly 1.3 million foreign-born workers have found jobs.

Analysed by nationality, a third of the extra 297,000 workers last year were British-born, but two-thirds were not – although 63,000 of these have gone on to get UK passports.

Nearly half of all the new workers do not hold a British passport, including 98,000 from eastern Europe.

They bring the total estimated number of eastern European workers here to an estimated 593,000, up from 82,000 since 2004.

The number of citizens of the longer- standing EU member states, such as France and Germany, fell by about 3,000 to 531,000, while Indian nationals increased by 38,000 to 188,000.

Migrationwatch UK chairman Sir Andrew Green said the figures were “spectacular”.

He said: “There are no fixed numbers of jobs in an economy but it is very hard to escape the conclusion that foreign-born workers are taking jobs that might be done by British workers.” He said the new figures suggested there had been a “significant” inflow of eastern European workers in the summer of 2010.

“The huge increase in foreign workers at a time of high unemployment, including nearly a million young people, strengthens still further the case for tough immigration controls on workers from the rest of the world,” said Sir Andrew.

The coalition proposes to cap non-EU immigration for the year from April.

Nearly 3.9 million people working in the UK between July and September last year were born overseas, up from 2.7 million in 2004.

There were 2.4 million foreigners working here, up from just under 1.5 million in 2004. EU rules mean the UK has no power to stop citizens of other EU countries coming here, but the Coalition has pledged to cut non-EU immigration drastically.

In November, Home Secretary Theresa May announced that the number of non-EU workers entering Britain would be slashed by a fifth as she set the first permanent cap on foreign workers at 21,700 for the coming year.

But businesses are free to transfer unlimited numbers of staff from overseas to their UK offices if the workers stay in Britain for less than 12 months.

POLICE and social workers are failing to tackle Asian gangs who are grooming white girls for sex – some as young as 11 – for fear of being branded racist, it emerged yesterday.

Figures reveal an alarming number of prosecutions for on-street grooming of girls aged between 11 and 16 have involved men of Pakistani heritage.

Experts fear the statistics are a fraction of the “tidal wave” of offending in the Midlands and northern England, which has been rife for more than a decade.

A senior officer at West Mercia police called for an end to the culture of silence surrounding the issue, highlighting the prevalent “damaging taboo” to ignore the connection between on-street grooming and race.

Chief Inspector Alan Edwards said: “These girls are being passed around and used as meat.

“To stop this type of crime you need to start everyone talking about it – but everyone has been too scared to address the ethnicity factor.

“No one wants to stand up and say Pakistani guys in parts of the country are recruiting young white girls and passing them around relatives for sex – but we need to stop being worried about the racial complication.”

In a briefing paper, researchers at University College London’s Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science reported that victims were typically white girls while “most central offenders are Pakistani”.

The offenders were not viewed as paedophiles but picked vulnerable young girls “because of their malleability”. The report concluded that “race is a delicate issue” that should be “handled sensitively but not brushed under the carpet”.

Grooming begins with groups of older men befriending under-age girls they meet in town centres, shopping malls or outside schools, treating them initially as girlfriends and showering them with presents and attention.

But the relationship quickly becomes exploitative as the abuser plies the child with drink and drugs before pimping her out to friends and paying customers. In the worst cases, girls were moved around the country to be repeatedly abused. Most police forces and charities working to help victims, who in some cases have endured years of abuse, have publicly denied ethnicity has any link to on-street grooming.

But in 17 court cases since 1997 where groups of men were prosecuted, 53 of the 56 people found guilty were Asian, 50 of them Muslim, while just three were white.

The claims come after five Asian men were jailed in November for a total of 32 years for a string of sexual offences against girls aged between 12 and 16 in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The presiding judge Peter Kelson QC, told the men they were “sexual predators”, adding: “You had what you regarded as your fun. Now you will take your punishment.”

Weeks earlier, nine Asian men were jailed for the “sustained sexual abuse” of a privately-educated schoolgirl who was forced into sex slavery aged 14 in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Lancashire-based Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim youth organisation, said: “These people think that white girls have fewer morals and are less valuable than our girls. This is a form of racism that is abhorrent and totally unacceptable in a society that prides itself on equality and justice.

“It’s a crime against humanity, a crime that Islam totally forbids.”

Ex-Labour MP Ann Cryer provoked a row in 2003 by saying the culture of arranged marriages could have caused a criminal minority of Asians to target vulnerable young white girls for sex.

The Home Office said: “Child protection is an absolute priority for Government and we expect all local agencies to treat these crimes extremely seriously and to work together to address these problems.”

Islamists 'responsible' for Ugandan bombs
Somali Islamist militants al-Shabaab have claimed responsibility for the two bomb attacks in the Ugandan capital Kampala that killed more than 70 people.

The attacks took place during the final moments of Sunday's World Cup and are the first time that the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab has hit outside Somalia.

At least 28 Ugandans and 11 Ethiopians are among the dead, as well as an Irish woman and an American charity worker, according to the Ugandan government.

Thirty-three of the dead have not yet been identified.

al-Shabaab spokesman Sheik Ali Mohamud Rage claimed responsibility two days after the group threatened revenge attacks on Uganda and Burundi for their contribution to the African Union peace keeping force that prop up the Somali government.

US President Barack Obama has condemed the attacks as deplorable and cowardly and pledged support to the Ugandan government to find those responsible.

The explosions ripped through two bars packed with soccer fans watching the final moments of the World Cup final on television in an Ethiopian-themed restaurant and at a gathering in a Kampala rugby club on Sunday.

THOUSANDS of offenders could be walking the streets in a U-turn on David Cameron’s tough-on-crime promises in a desperate bid to save money - if Ken Clarke has his way.

The Government is proposing a radical reform of prison policy to save £2.2billion by sending fewer offenders to jail and cutting sentences, it emerged yesterday.

Justice Secretary Ken Clarke said it cost more to keep an offender locked up for a year than it does to “send a boy to Eton”, suggesting public fears about crime were overblown.

But the move sparked anger among backbench Tory MPs, who said he was badly out of touch and was soft on crime.

Mr Clarke questioned the need for the tougher sentencing that has seen the prison population almost double since the early 1990s.

He also appeared to resurrect the controversial Liberal Democrat proposal of scrapping short-term jail sentences, which ran into heavy criticism during the election. Published figures suggested it would have meant tens of thousands of convicts walking free.

Mr Clarke said: “Rather than just salami-slicing and saying ‘We can save a bit of money here, we can save a bit of money there’, what I’m looking at is, in this case, sentencing.

“Our first duty is to protect the public. There are some very dangerous people who need to be in prison. But why is the prison population twice what it was when I was the Home Secretary not so very long ago?” Tory MP Philip Davies said last night: “It’s very sad that somebody of Ken Clarke’s calibre is talking such drivel. This is a ridiculous false economy – it saves money to have the most persistent criminals in prison.

“If short sentences do not work, the argument should be for longer sentences, not putting them out on the streets to terrorise communities.”

Mr Clarke was Home Secretary until 1993, when he presided over a prison population of less than 45,000.

His successor, MichaelHoward, starting a sentencing revolution that pushed inmate numbers over 85,000.

Former Justice Secretary Jack Straw had set a target of 96,000 prison places for 2014In opposition, Tory shadow ministers pledged to meet or even exceed this by taking the total past 100,000 for the first time.

But that pledge was dropped from the party’s election manifesto as the scale of the fiscal crisis became clear. The coalition deal made no mention of prisoner numbers but also appeared to drop the Lib Dem pledge to abolish sentences of six months or less.

Research suggested that would have meant allowing 60,000 convicts to go free, including 285 sex offenders, 3,656 burglars and 446 drug dealers.

2009 WAS the year when the reputation of the political class went into meltdown.

Westminster’s authority was obliterated by the expenses scandal, the Government’s by spectacular mismanagement. As a result of their conduct over the past 12 months, our rulers have left the country on the verge of financial and moral bankruptcy.

Ever since the credit crunch began, Gordon Brown has been boasting that he “saved the world”. In truth he has not even saved our economy from implosion. Unlike most other western nations, Britain remains mired in the pit of recession.

During the past year, the downturn has been worsened by the policies that Brown and his ineffectual sidekick Alistair Darling have implemented. Through their gross irresponsibility, public debts have been racked up to unprecedented levels, with the current deficit now at more than £175billion.

The only people who did well out of Labour this year were welfare claimants and bankers. Extra billions have been poured into social security, while the colossal sums used to prop up the financial system have been exploited by bankers seeking to maintain their inflated bonuses and pensions, despite all the damage they have inflicted.

The culture of avarice was symbolised by Sir Fred Goodwin, the former chief executive of the royal Bank of Scotland, which had to be saved from insolvency by a series of taxpayer-funded bailouts. Having masterminded the near collapse of his bank, Goodwin left in January with a pension worth £700,000 a year before retreating to his villa on the French Riviera.

Labour has paid a heavy political price for its economic failures. By far its most dismal result came in the local and European elections in June, in which Labour received less than 16 per cent of the vote and finished a distant third behind the UK Independence Party. Labour’s collapse also meant that, for the first time, the BNP won in a national election.

A serious crisis within the Cabinet was sparked by this disastrous performance. At one stage, when the smooth, ambitious work and Pensions secretary James Purnell resigned with a withering assault on Brown’s leadership, it looked as if the PM would be toppled.

He was only saved by Lord Mandelson rallying the rest of the Cabinet round Brown. Mandelson, once Brown’s arch enemy, was rewarded with a grandiose new array of titles. Indeed it is no exaggeration to describe him as the real driving force of Brown’s weakened Government.

Brown’s image also took a deserved hammering when no. 10 was engulfed in a major sleaze scandal in April, after Damian McBride, his closest aide, was caught plotting a vicious smear campaign against senior Tories. McBride, known in Westminster as McPoison, was forced to resign and the affair made a mockery of Brown’s much vaunted “moral compass”. Moral integrity was also absent this year from the Commons, where MPs were exposed for having indulged in relentless abuse of public money for personal gain.

The climate of subsidised greed and self-entitlement was seen at its most outrageous in the way a host of politicians built up property empires and put in outlandish claims. The saga led to a string of resignations, including those of Speaker Michael Martin and Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. Despite public fury, MPs have exhibited neither a sense of shame nor a desire for real reform. Government minister, Sion Simon, was revealed to have broken rules by claiming rent on a flat owned by his sister.

Despite Labour’s ineptitude and unpopularity, the Tories have failed to build the sort of unassailable lead that Blair achieved in the dying days of the Major government.

Some of this reflects David Cameron’s reluctance to focus on Labour failures that anger so many voters, such as softness on crime, uncontrolled immigration and a loss of sovereignty to Brussels.

After Ireland’s vote in favour of the Lisbon Treaty in October, for instance, Cameron’s refusal to stick by his “cast iron” pledge to give Britain a referendum on the issue caused widespread dismay.

In response to the criticism about his lack of fire, Cameron has promised to mount a vigorous campaign before the election.

Cameron will probably end up as PM but reliant on the support of minor parties. It should be remembered that the Tories face a huge task. Since the Victorian age they have only once ousted a government with a working majority. Buttressed by class-war rhetoric and core votes of the welfare, migrant and public sector clientele, Labour will do better than expected but still suffer widespread losses.

On some of the intriguing personal contests, I believe Margaret Hodge will narrowly defeat the BNP’s nick Griffin in Barking but new Speaker John Bercow will lose his Buckingham seat to Nigel Farage of UKIP. Cameron will narrowly emerge the overall winner but he has a very tough six months ahead and an even tougher spell if he makes it to office.

In many countries across the world where Islam is the dominant religion, Christians pay a high price for their beliefs. Nowhere moreso than Indonesia where attacks are commonplace, resulting in murder of men, women and children.

Yet still the traitors and dhimmis running Britain won't accept that radical Islam is a violent and intolerant religion. To speak out runs a high risk of persecution by the politicised police under the banner of hate crime. Failure to speak allows the evil to flourish across the globe, where our world leaders ought to be protecting the rights of Christians to live without the fear of attack from religious zealots. Maybe Indonesia doesn't have any oil to spare though!

Harry Patch, last of the Great War survivors has died.

Old soldier Harry Patch has gone, over 90 years later than many of his comrades and friends who fought in the Great War.

Today, Peter Hitchens wrote this article in the Mail. I think it is worth repeating here for all those Liberal twits who admire the useless, pathetic cowards that run this country for their own benefit and not for the British people whose sacrifice is never ending.

"How strange it is to be marking the death of Harry Patch, the last straggler of the First World War, in the same week that we see yet another sad procession of coffins come home from Afghanistan.
And not only coffins. The return of the grievously maimed is in many ways harder to cope with – as is the Government’s shameful attempt to wriggle out of its obligations to them.
Note this. The millions of Great War dead and the casualties of Helmand are all victims of Left-wing idealist governments, blundering into war out of weakness and vanity.

Herbert Asquith’s Liberals were militant constitutional vandals – like New Labour – and pioneers of the welfare state. Like New Labour, they fooled the country into a disastrous war whose end they could not see.
I am now quite sure that we would have been better off staying out of the 1914 war, that it ended our Empire, handed over world leadership to the USA, greatly advanced the misguided cause of socialism and the power of the state, nearly bankrupted us and wiped out the brightest and best of all classes in a way that still affects us.
And yet it is also the greatest single demonstration of selfless sacrifice in the modern world. No wonder the sound of the Last Post still makes us weep.
It is the contrast between the clean, upright, honest courage of the soldiers and the mean, small-minded trickery of the politicians that makes the whole thing so hard to bear.
How is it that men such as Bob Ainsworth, a trade union plodder whose official spokesperson recently told me on the record that Mr Ainsworth attended meetings of the revolutionary International Marxist Group in his 30s (but refused to elaborate), end up in charge of the best men and women in Britain?The answer, alas, is that we have a political system under which we allow ourselves to be bribed by mountebanks with our own money.
Good, wise, competent and patriotic people steer clear of this haunted swamp, or are destroyed if they try to enter it. Year by year, it brings more and more sordid, trivial and unworthy people into Government.Perhaps it could have worked if so many potential leaders, teachers, scientists, engineers, poets, thinkers and good family men had not volunteered for early death in 1914, or been compelled into the trenches in 1916. Maybe it might have survived if we had not wrecked our state education system.
As it is, we are in a process of decline so steep that one day we will look back on Bob Ainsworth and Gordon Brown with nostalgia."

STORM OVER ‘MYTH’ THAT MIGRANTS JUMP QUEUE

A REPORT that claimed it was a myth that immigrants “jumped the queue” for council houses has been disputed.

The report for the Equality and Human Rights Commission was wrong to claim its findings proved there was no bias in the allocation of low-cost public housing, according to a think-tank. Professor Mervyn Stone, of University College said in a report for Civitas that vital calculations had not been done.

Civitas has posted a formal complaint to the UK Statistics Authority asking it to investigate the statistical methods and reasoning behind the EHRC report.

Civitas director David Green said: “Government agencies have a duty to use public funds to commission objective research but the EHRC has failed to meet even the minimal standards of statistical rigour that the public is entitled to expect.”

The disputed report was carried out for the EHRC by the Institute for Public Policy Research. It said that in 2007, 1.8 per cent of social housing was occupied by migrants who had arrived after 2002, with 87.8 per cent occupied by people born in the UK.

The Government seized on this as proof that it was a “myth” that immigrants got preferential treatment. But Professor Stone said the chances of a UK-born and a foreign-born person succeeding in getting a house could be compared only by doing calculations that included the number of all homes allocated over the five years and the number of UK and foreign-born applicants.

Those calculations did not appear in the EHRC report.

Labour's mad immigration policy

LABOUR’S immigration policies were denounced as “madness’’ after an official report highlighted how Britain’s population is expected to soar.

One new household will be formed every two minutes until 2021, almost half of it driven by immigration, according to projections which have been steadily revised upwards in recent years.

Around 70 per cent of the population increase up to 2031 will be due to immigration, according to the Government. By 2021, newcomers will account for nearly four in 10 of the four million new households formed in England and Wales.

Labour MP Frank Field and Conservative Sir Nicholas Soames, chairmen of Parliament’s cross-party Group on Balanced Migration, said: “As we face severe cuts in public spending, it is the politics of madness to continue with immigration policies that will mean us having to provide thousands of new homes for newcomers.
“Not to mention the necessary roads, schools and hospitals on this unprecedented scale, when our own citizens, both black and white, cannot get homes.’’

The figures were spelt out in the Office for National Statistics’ latest Regional Trends report.
It showed that the projected number of households in England and Wales will rise by nearly four million over 15 years, from 21.52 million in 2006 to 25.44 million in 2021.

Of these, more than a million will be in London and the South-east. By 2031, experts forecast there will be a further 2.5 million households in England – a total of 27.82 million.

The Group on Balanced Migration said the Government now envisaged there would be nearly 1.5 million more households in 2021 than it was forecasting just three years ago. In 2006, the Government estimated there would be 24 million households in 2021.

Last year it revised the projection to 24.97 million. Now it believes there will be 25.44 million.
Sir Andrew Green, chairman of thinktank Migrationwatch, said: “For years the Government has been in denial about the massive impact of immigration on housing.

“They cannot any longer deny we will have to build a new home every five minutes for the next 15 years just for new immigrants.
“Given the financial crisis that the Government faces, this is absolutely crazy. Where is all the money going to come from to build not only houses but also schools, hospitals and roads that will be needed?”

This week it emerged that the number of immigrants granted British citizenship had increased by more than half in a year.

A total of 54,615 applications were approved in the first three months of 2009 – 57 per cent more than in the same period last year. If the trend continues, the total this year is likely to reach 220,000, dwarfing the record of 164,540 in 2007.

This year’s surge has been blamed on people trying to get passports before the Government introduces a new tougher system of earned citizenship next year.

TERROR SUSPECTS GET JOBS BENEFITS

TERROR suspects under house arrest are claiming up to £60.50 a week in Jobseeker’s Allowance.

In the latest example of soft-touch Britain, 22 out of 23 extremists who applied for the state benefit received it.
Yet none of them is available for work. Severe restrictions are placed on their movement because they are deemed a risk to national security.

The taxpayer-funded handouts last night sparked outrage among politicians and campaign groups who said it was yet another reminder of why extremists hellbent on destroying Western civilisation make a beeline for Britain.
Tory MP Patrick Mercer, a former Army officer and chairman of the Commons counter-terrorism subcommittee, said: “Surely this is nonsense. If they are under control orders they will not be seeking jobs.
“All we are doing is pouring more taxpayers’ money into a bottomless pit. In times of economic crisis, this will infuriate hard-pressed people.”

Control orders are only given to suspects regarded by MI5 to be so dangerous that they are a risk to the nation’s security. Some are under a curfew for up to 13 hours a day.
The Home Office admits all but one of 23 suspects who claimed the benefit were successful. In a case that calls into question whether Government departments talk to each other, the Department for Work and Pensions says that people can only receive Jobseeker’s Allowance if they show they are “capable of working, available for work and actively seeking work”.
Suspects’ families often also get financial help from charities such as Helping Households Under Great Stress, an Islamic group supporting families affected by terror arrests.

In total, 40 individuals have been subject to control orders under the Prevention of Terrorism Act since 2005.
At present 17 are under the orders. It is not known how many of them are currently getting jobseeker handouts.

Susie Squire, campaign manager at the TaxPayers’ Alliance, demanded Labour stop “such blatant exploitation of taxpayers’ generosity”.
Tory MP Philip Davies said the farcical payouts underlined why Britain was the destination of choice for extremists. He said: “It’s no wonder they head to Britain. While they are determined to bring down our way of life, they are quite happy to take our money.”

Apart from benefits, suspects are a drain on Britain because of surveillance costs. Their social contacts have to be monitored and there are restrictions on how many people they can associate with at any one time.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance has put the cost to Britain of bankrolling Islamic preachers of hate at £5million. Hook-handed Abu Hamza alone cost £2.75million. He is now facing deportation to the US.
And Al Qaeda’s Europe envoy, Abu Qatada, 48, who arrived here on a false passport in 1993 but was allowed to preach hate from his west London home, is estimated to have cost £1.4million already.

He is back in jail, fighting deportation to Jordan. The legal battle could take years, costing the taxpayer even more, while his family in the UK are on annual benefits estimated at £47,000

Britain's naval bases around the world should be put under the control of the European Union, according to a report commissioned by the Brussels Parliament.
The study states that UK military facilities in the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar and Cyprus should become part of an EU 'forward presence' spanning the globe, to help safeguard Europe's trade routes in an uncertain future.
The proposals would also see Europe's other major naval power, France, forced to put its military bases in Africa and South America under the control of Brussels as part of a process of 'Europeanisation'.
The latest example of the ambitious European defence agenda being pursued within the EU goes so far as to suggest that two new giant aircraft carriers being built for the Royal Navy should become an EU 'capability'.
The idea of the EU flag flying over Port Stanley, Gibraltar and Cyprus drew a horrified response from opposition critics in the UK last night, and a firm rebuttal from the Ministry of Defence which insisted British facilities would remain under British control.
The study was commissioned by the European Parliament's security and defence committee, as part of inquiries into how the EU should respond to emerging military powers in Asia.
It concludes that: 'The EU Member States’ military installations - mainly French and British - would provide a formidable asset for the geographical and functional expansion of EU Grand Strategy.'
As the world power balance becomes more complex and uncertain, the report adds, 'there is a growing and compelling need for Europeans to take responsibility for the Sea Lines of Communication that link them to the farthest corners of the world, particularly those most vital to European trade and security.'
Sea lanes can only be secured with a costly network of forward bases, the study argues, and the answer is 'further EU co-operation to ‘Europeanise’ the Anglo-French forward presence and undergird EU maritime security more effectively.'
The report calls for 'institutional reforms' within the EU, adding: 'One of these may be for Britain and France to transfer the maintenance and upkeep of their military installations to a central institution, funded by all of the Member States.'
To oversee the changes, the EU must appoint a new 'Special Representative for Geostrategy'.
Referring to Britain's two new giant aircraft carriers, the report adds: 'The sheer size and capability of these vessels will provide the Royal Navy - and potentially, the EU - with a greatly enhanced expeditionary and maritime power projection capability.'
Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands are particularly emotive issues for Britain.
During the 1982 conflict 255 British servicemen died to recapture the Falklands from Argentina, while Gibraltar's sovereignty remains a bone of contention between the UK and Spain.
Enthusiasts for European Defence want to see a common EU foreign policy backed by centrally-controlled EU military forces.
France has championed the cause for years and Nicolas Sarkozy is using France's six-month EU presidency to push proposals for a new EU military headquarters in Brussels and more EU Rapid Reaction Forces, each made up of 1,500 troops from member states.
But opponents fear an EU Army will become a building block for a future European super-state.
Britain's Defence Secretary John Hutton fuelled concerns on taking office last year when he dismissed opposition to closer EU military ties as 'pathetic'.
Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox warned today: 'Talk of a Grand Strategy betrays the real intentions of the European Commission.
'The idea that we might turn our military bases over to the EU, for projects the British people have never given their assent to, is a twisted fantasy.'
Geoffrey Van Orden, Conservative defence spokesman in Brussels, said: 'These are among the most hubristic proposals the EU has yet produced in support of its defence policies.
'This has nothing to do with a genuine contribution to European security and everything to do with EU promotion of its own misplaced military ambitions.'
An MoD spokesman played down the proposals, saying use of British bases was a decision for the UK Government.He added: 'The UK's policy remains that there will be no standing European army, navy or air force. We have just one set of military forces and they don't belong to either NATO or the EU - they belong to us.

HOW THE PRIME MINISTER HAS BETRAYED US ALL

THE socialist nightmare has truly arrived.

The nation has been taken into custody by the state. As the economy continues its headlong plunge into depression, the Labour Government has developed such a stranglehold on British life that our once free country is starting to resemble a failed communist regime. Head-bangers on the extreme left used to be distinguished by their shrill demand for the Government to take control of the banks and leading businesses. Wild-eyed zealots in tiny groups such as the Revolutionary Communist Party or the Socialist Workers Party would talk earnestly of the need for the state to "take over the commanding heights of the economy.

Brown lives by theory not by real experience

Yet today, thanks to Gordon Brown, what was once an idea belonging to the lunatic fringe of politics has now been translated into official Labour policy. Last weekend, in a move that graphically highlights the increasing Sovietisation of Britain, the Government effectively seized Lloyds, by far the country's largest banking group. Through a squalid deal cooked up by the Treasury and the incompetent bankers, the Government has taken a majority shareholding in the bank in return for using taxpayers' money to insure Lloyds against future losses on its vast £260 billion of toxic loans.

Those of us, like myself, who are customers of Lloyds, are greeted this morning by the terrifying reality that Gordon Brown is our bank manager. Indeed, the move on Lloyds follows a string of other takeovers by the Government, including the nationalisations of Northern Rock and Bradford and Bingley, as well as the acquisition of a 75 per cent shareholding in the stricken Royal Bank of Scotland, a figure that is likely to rise to over 90 per cent before long as the RBS sinks deeper into the mire. As a result, Labour has now established a staggering degree of control in the financial sector. The Government now owns more than half of all the mortgages, retail accounts and loans to small businesses in the entire country.

This is socialism with a vengeance on a scale that has never happened before in any democratic country. Even in the dark days of the last Labour Government in the Seventies, when public spending was out of control and taxes were extortionate, the influence of the state on the economy was not like it is today. It is impossible to run an effective banking system with the politicians in charge. Not only are Labour ministers serially incompetent but every decision will be viewed through the distorting prism of political ideology rather than on sound financial judgement.

Yet the tightening grip of Brown's tentacles is not confined to finance. Due to a mixture of greed and adherence to the fashionable orthodoxy of globalisation, Britain's banks have not confined themselves in recent years to their traditional business of lending and saving. Instead they have seen themselves as international players, using private equity investments to gain partownership of an astonishing range of companies.

One of the many absurd consequences of the Lloyds deal is that the British taxpayer now has a stake in firms as diverse as the House of Fraser stores and the Vue cinema chain. This is Brown's Britain, where even a night at the movies is underwritten by the taxpayer. Far from improving the economy, the expansion of the state is accelerating economic meltdown.

Last week, Steve Bundred, head of the independent financial watchdog the Audit Commission, warned that Britain is heading towards Armageddon. So desperate is the situation that the Bank of England has started printing money, a sure route to more economic chaos. There has never been a single country that climbed its way out o f trouble simply by traducing its own currency.

Prime Minister Brown always tries to pin all the blame on global problems or sub-prime lendin g in America. But the fact is that he is directly responsible for the current mess. It was he who pushed for the disastrous shotgun marriage between Lloyds TSB and HBOS, promising Lloyds boss Sir Victor Blank that he would waive the rules about competition to smooth the merger. It was Brown who ruined the public finances, pushed for more globalisation, promoted the credit bubble, wrecked the private pensions system and sold off our gold reserves. But he still refuses to apologise.

He will not admit any fault because he does not think he has done anything wrong. And that is the genuinely disturbing aspect of the Government's takeover of Britain. For Brown, the dour Scottish Presbyterian control freak, domination o f the state is something to be celebrated, not regretted. Oversight of everything from banks to cinema chains is the fulfilment of the socialist dream.

In 1975, as a young radical, he wrote a hard-left pamphlet called "The Red Paper" which called for nationalisation of vast swathes of the economy, including banking, land, industry, insurance and food supply. "Public control, " he wrote, "was essential to the provision o f social needs and services."

Many people spout Marxist claptrap in their youth and then, thanks to the influence of employment and marriage, they mature. But Brown has never grown up. He remains the brooding student politician who lives more by academic theory than real experience. Now the rest of us, sliding under the heel of the state's jackboot, are forced to live with the consequences of his puerile vision.

THE skies are black, the winds more harsh. The storm now rages with a new intensity, threatening the very foundations of our economy.

Yet our ruling Labour politicians continue to demonstrate that they have no idea how to save the nation in the midst of the deepening depression. Like all incompetents and ideologues they have refused to learn a single lesson from the crisis. Devoid of imagination or courage they remain trapped in their world of dogma, clinging to the failed policies that have already dragged us to the brink of ruin.

It is now clear the economic catastrophe has been brought about by the twin forces of excessive borrowing and unfettered globalisation. The wilful disregard for either financial restraint or the British national interest has been a disaster for our country, destroying jobs and storing up debts that will be a burden for generations. National interest is seen as backwards.

So what is the Government’s solution? More borrowing and more globalisation, of course. Yes, that’s right: the answer for our bankrupt economy is pile up more debt and give up any last vestige of control over our own economic destiny. It is like a chronic alcoholic claiming that his cure lies in drinking another bottle of whisky a day. We constantly hear Labour ministers parroting the line “global problems require global solutions”. So we are told that we need a new “global financial regulator” and new rules for the “global economy”.

At the EU summit last weekend European leaders grandly demanded complete oversight of the financial markets, stressing the importance of the EU “speaking with one voice”. For amidst all this frenzy the one taboo has been any support for the concept of “protectionism”. “Protectionism protects no one,” said Gordon Brown recently.

In fashionable political circles it is regarded as outrageous to advocate that the Government should put the interests of the British public first by limiting the movement of labour, tightening borders, supporting domestic industries or restricting imports. Britain must be totally open to foreign capital, goods and workers, warn Labour politicians, adding that protection is the route to xenophobic isolation.

A clear summary of this was given yesterday by Baroness Ashton, Britain’s EU commissioner in Brussels who prattled about the necessity of “having diversity in our communities, about the value and benefit of people from different countries coming here and creating wealth”. It would be interesting to know what sort of wealth creation she had in mind. But Lady Ashton’s thinking is precisely the reason we are in such a mess. The very concept of a national interest is treated as backward.

The natural impulse to look after one’s own, what used to be seen as noble patriotism, is now regarded as dangerously reactionary. So we end up with the alternative created by the globalisation freaks where British workers are denied the right to apply for jobs in their own country, where the welfare state pays an Afghan single mother £170,000 a year in housing benefit to live in a large villa in west London, where dole queues lengthen while call-centres are relocated to India and where desperate migrants flood into the country to be exploited by employers paying £1 an hour.

Protectionism would have avoided this kind of squalid anarchy and abuse of decent British citizens. Such a strategy, pursued through strong borders and support for British firms, could have helped to uphold our civilised society and maintain our economy. As it is, the creed of globalisation has brought nothing but misery.

If we’d had a banking system that put the interests of our country first we would not be in the present chaos, since our banks would not have indulged in reckless lending to sub-prime American homebuyers, Russian oligarchs or Spanish property investors. It was the wild pursuit of global profits, regardless of banking principles, that has brought the financial sector so low.

Similarly, without the remorseless pursuit of globalisation, we might still have home-grown car and aircraft industries. Our essential utilities would still be in our hands. Without the open-door immigration policy we would have retained the skills base in engineering and construction that once made our country great. Nor would we have been forced to spend £30billion a year on public services to immigrants.

A sense of national pride, the instinct that lies behind protectionism, would have prevented Britain from enduring the lunacies of multi-culturalism. Without globalisation we would still be an independent country rather than merely a region of the United States of Europe, an entity for which we never voted.

We would not have to hand over £12billion a year to Brussels for the privilege of being governed by Eurocrats. In a protectionist Britain that looked after its own people we would not be squandering £8billion a year on overseas aid, most of it going to Africa where it is used to prop up tyrannical, kleptocratic regimes.

It is the height of absurdity that we are forking out £40million a year in subsidies to Mugabe’s Zimbabwe. Protectionism runs with the grain of human nature, like the desire to help family, friends or neighbours. Globalisation, on the other hand, is a destructive creed that treats all of us as nothing more than pawns in a vast system run only in the interests of an international elite.

Incredibly, our fine leader and statesman promised just this week to award the Palestinians $500 million to help reconstruct Gaza and The West Bank as part of a deal to bring peace to the Middle East.

The bribe comes with the condition attached that Hamas and other groups must cease hostilities with Israel and be good boys, for a while at least.

Of course once the money has gone there is nothing the marxist traitor can do to recoup the money but by then he hopes that the Arab States will be fully paid up members of the communist European Union and therefore contributing to his pension fund or at worst, all be living here in Britain, doing the low paid jobs for his booming economy and obviously voting Labour.

Strangely though, when it was suggested that pensions should go back to being index linked to ensure poor pensioners could at least keep up with inflation, there wasn't enough money although in principle it was a good idea.

Well we know it's a good idea, that's why his and all other white collar staff pensions stayed index linked from the start and only the peasants lost that protection. On the very same day that he announced he could not afford the return to index linking, he promised another £40 million aid to India for education purposes.

Is India not a nuclear power with its own satellites in space and currently engaged in buying out massive British industries, taking thousands of British jobs and coincidently the home of the richest man in Britain, who also happens to be the Labour Party's biggest donor?

Palestinian terrorists are believed to be benefiting from our taxes.

MILLIONS of pounds of taxpayers’ money is being poured into financing terrorist propaganda, it emerged last night.Some of the cash is even being used to fund school textbooks which teach children in Palestine to worship violence and hate all non-Muslims.The money has also been spent on school books praising the “insurgents” killing British troops in Iraq, a report revealed.

Tory and Jewish leaders expressed outrage at the revelations and called for an urgent investigation into how the Palestinian Authority has used £47.5million in British aid over the past year.Shadow Foreign Office Minister David Lidington said he was “disturbed” by the findings of the TaxPayers’ Alliance report. He added: “It is imperative that future generations are taught a message of reconciliation and mutual understanding.“I have contacted both the Palestinian representative in London and the United Nations Relief Agency to discuss the issues the TaxPayers’ Alliance has raised.”Former Tory home security spokesman Patrick Mercer said the way the money was being used was “grotesque”.“It worries me deeply that taxpayers’ money is being used, quite improperly, for destructive purposes,” he said.“While aid needs to be directed to the needy, its abuse for terrorist purposes is grotesque.”

Lord Janner, a previous President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, added: “It’s vital that Palestinian children are not indoctrinated with anti-Jewish and Israel hatred.”But the report, by analyst Matthew Sinclair, says that British aid “is helping to fund ‘hate education’ and promote violence.” It gives examples of programmes on the Palestinian Authority’s official TV station.One sermon on November 10, 2006, proclaimed: “We want to kill the Jews. Kill them one by one, make their children orphans and their wives widows.”

Another attacked anyone who refused to become a Muslim. It said: “God’s enemies are the enemies of the religion! Count them and kill them.”Most shockingly, a Palestinian Authority pre-school education programme in 2004 included the following exchange: Girl:

“If a boy comes in front of your house where a tree is planted, and cuts it down, what would you do?”Tarabisho (a puppet): “I’ll fight him and make a big riot. I’ll bring AK-47s and I’ll commit a massacre.”One textbook justifies executing those who leave Islam because “Islam has to protect itself.”

A history book praises “a brave resistance to liberate Iraq”.A spokesman for the Department for International Development said: “We don’t fund the Palestinian Authority directly and therefore don’t fund textbooks.“UK aid is spent on helping Palestinians to pay doctors and teachers, maintain water and electricity supplies and support refugees.

It’s certainly not spent on promoting violence and extremism – we undertake stringent checks.”But the TaxPayers’ Alliance said that, by funding worthwhile activities, Britain was freeing up funds which could be spent in more sinister areas.

What price happiness?

486 Primary schools lost forever and 1704 Primary and Secondary schools closed since 2002.

With the news that Shropshire CC is planning to close twenty two primary and junior schools across the county to save money, it can only be concluded that money is everything and happiness nothing under this most anti community government.

It doesn't matter that a village school is a top performer nationwide or that the take up of child places is only one short of capacity.It doesn't matter that the children are happy and attend the same school as all the other kids in the village.

It doesn't matter that closing the schools will mean many kids will have to commute miles to another village and lose contact with their existing school mates. To the anti British left wing traitors running all our establishments, destroying communities is all part of the process needed to eradicate a sense of belonging or pride in our culture.

The children of rural Shropshire are just the next phase in the communist master plan to neutralise the English and force their hideous agenda on this nation. To all the Salopians who voted Labour thinking they were the party of the caring community, well done, your evil deeds are coming to fruition.

To all those who didn't vote Labour but hadn't the intelligence to persuade their friends to do likewise, serves you right for being too casual about it. For all those Salopians who will vote Labour again, a pox on you. You deserve every tax hike, every NHS cut, school closure and council service cut you get.
